Ember Month Safety: Dangote Cement trains commercial motorcyclists on blind spots
Dangote Cement, Ibese Plant, has renewed its commitment to community safety with a comprehensive training session for commercial motorcyclists on blind-spot awareness and road safety, especially during the Ember Months.
The sensitization exercise, held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Ilaro Motor Park in Ogun State, attracted hundreds of commercial motorcyclists from Ilaro and neighbouring communities.
Delivering the keynote address titled “Speed Is Sweet, But E Dey Kill: Slow Down, Give Space, Move with Care,” the Group Head, Pan-Nigeria/African Transport, Health and Safety at Dangote, Ms. Ebere Okonkwo, emphasized that overspeeding, impatience and miscalculations are major causes of preventable road accidents.
She urged riders to prioritize safe riding habits and strictly obey traffic regulations, particularly during the remaining twenty-seven days into the New Year when vehicular movement increases.
The Head of Cement Transport and Safety at the Ibese Plant, Mr. Peter Abuad, led a practical session on identifying and avoiding truck blind spots.
He demonstrated the four critical areas where truck drivers have limited visibility—directly in front, on both sides and behind the vehicle—warning motorcyclists to avoid lingering in those zones during turns, lane changes or right-of-way.
A representative of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Suleiman Oluwadunmiye, encouraged participants to act as safety ambassadors, stressing that most road crashes can be prevented when riders stay alert and follow basic safety rules.
Officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO)—Mr. Solomon Salako and Mr. Obafemi Matemilola—commended Dangote Cement for its continuous investment in public safety and awareness programmes aimed at improving road behaviour across the state.
Two participants, Mr. Rasheed Opeyemi and Mr. Kareem Kolade, expressed deep appreciation to Dangote Cement, describing the Ember Month training as timely and lifesaving.
They urged their colleagues to avoid blind spots, ride responsibly and obey traffic signs at all times.
The event concluded with the distribution of safety kits to various commercial motorcyclists unions in attendance, reinforcing Dangote Cement’s ongoing commitment to reducing accidents and promoting safer roads in Ogun State.
