FPI former rector, Dr Raheem Oloyo dies at 67

The Rector, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of the Polytechnic, Ilaro, has announced the death of the 4th Rector of the institution, Dr. Raheem Adisa Oloyo.

According to a press release, the former rector died in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 28th February, 2023 in, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom.

“He was survived by his wife, Chief Mrs. Oluyemisi Oloyo, Children and grand children.

“Fidau prayer for the repose of his soul will take place on Thursday, 2nd March, 2023, by 10.00am at the Multipurpose Hall, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro”, the release stated.

With heavy heart, but in total submission to the will of Almighty Allah (SWAT), the Rector, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of the Polytechnic regrets to announce the death of the 4th Rector of the institution, Dr. Raheem Adisa Oloyo who passed on to glory in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 28th February, 2023 in, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Born on 14th August, 1956 in Lagos, Dr. Oloyo joined the services of the Polytechnic on 1st August, 1980 as Lecturer III in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology.

Through dint of hardwork, dedication and discipline, Dr. Oloyo rose to the position of Chief Lecturer on 1st January, 1995.

He became the Rector on 12th June, 2006 having being the Deputy /Acting Rector from 8th January, 2004.

He was re-appointed for the second and final term on the 12th June 2010.

He stepped down in 2014 and proceeded to Covenant University, Ota on a year sabbatical leave after which he returned to the Polytechnic as the Director, Directorate of Linkages and Affiliation on 20th January, 2016, the position he occupied until his mandatory retirement from active service on 14th August, 2021.

It will be an understatement that the Polytechnic community will sorely miss Dr. Raheem Adisa Oloyo, popularly known as the Grandfather Rector
