FUTI: The pains that Yayi killed

Federal University of Technology, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun West, a University championed by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, Senator representing Ogun West in the 10th Senate is a higher school of learning that has come on a rescue mission.
Good things are never late in coming, FUTI has come to confirm that tall dreams too do come to fruition.
The dream of having a University was a tall one for Ogun West, yet the senatorial district had the desire, did dream God in his mercy sent Yayi who has the human part of what it takes for the dream to come to fruition.
Achieving the upgrading of Federal Polytechnic by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi is no doubt a soothing balm on the pains of the lack of a university for Ogun West for so long.
The championing of the bill for the upgrading of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to a University of Technology by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi and the pursuit of same to fruition has birthed a dawn of a new age, a fresh start, a new beginning for Ogun West in the area of educational development and educational attainment for sons and daughters of the land, Yewa corridor in particular.
That this positive change and progressive development is not temporary but a permanent change gladdens the heart.
Ogun West now has a full fledged university to start a new age of enlightenment and to inspire generations present and generations to come to great glory
Long before now, generations of Yewa sons and daughters’ desire for higher learning died not because of suffocating tuition fees charged by schools, the desire died as a result of the restriction on the right of sons and daughters of Yewaland to choose the school they really want to go to study due to other costs aside tuition fees.
Their aspirations for higher education were nullified by fate because of the long distance between the schools they could go to, to seek admission, schools offering the courses their secondary school results were fit for and schools awarding the kind of certificate they wanted.
Tuition fees way back were not huge in amount but the attached costs like transportation fare, accommodation, feeding for a son or daughters going to far away places made many parents in the past to drop the idea of sponsoring their kids to higher school of learning altogether.
Some made their children consider Polytechnic education at the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to reduce attached costs because in Yewaland they had relations their kids could stay with and because the kids could easily return home for restocking of food stuffs.
There are also the social issue of not wanting their children to go too far away from parental monitoring at a young age.
Before the upgrading to FUTI, the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro has been a blessing. The fathers and mothers of the land that made the institution possible in Ilaro to provide education of higher learning standards to the good people of Ogun West should be applauded for their vision.
The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro was a bridge and it did narrow the loss the land would have suffered in the area of education to minimal level. Better not to imagine what the situation would have been without the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro providing Polytechnic education over the decades it lasted.
However, until recently when it grew its programmes beyond science, technology and commercial orientation, many youths could not fit in because the courses they wanted or those that their O level result could make them study were not on offer at the Federal Polytechnic.
Though inadvertent but it was a restriction on the right to choose by the youths of Ogun West.
Situations like that will no longer be the case now that the Polytechnic has been upgraded into a university where many programs will be on offer for different categories of certification.
The success of the effort of Senator Adeola to provide access to university education for Ogun West youths has permanently put an end to the restriction on the right of Ogun West students to choose university education above any other level of higher education.
A university is now next door, reducing transportation fare, parents are nearby to monitor the progress of their wards in this age of delinquencies, option attending school from home is open to students of host town, restocking of food stuffs is not far away, relations to give support are close by.
A university is an all in one school that runs certificates, diplomas, degrees, Masters and P.hD programmes. Students so willing can study for all these certifications in one place, FUTI.
The man of vision, the change agent, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi has succeeded in providing a better alternative route against the tortuous route of the Polytechnic to the peak of educational attainment for Ogun West students desirous of studying all the way to P.hD level.
It is a new world of opportunities for Ogun West students and parents. In the area of education, it is a new Ogun West from the vision of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi.
