OGEPA seals Petrol station over  underground water pollution

Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Arolat Petrol Station, along Ayetoro roundabout road in Abeokuta, pending the conclusion of investigation to ascertain the level of under ground water pollution alleged to have been caused by its activities in the area

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency(OGEPA), Hon. Farouk Akintunde, disclosed this in his Office, Oke – Mosan, saying that the action was taken to give room for thorough investigation over the petition received by Foursquare Gospel Church located beside the Petrol Station in Abeokuta.

Hon. Akintunde said the petition alleged that the activities of the Petrol Station had contaminated the only source of water supply of the Church, which is a well water with harmful Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) substances in the area.

The Special Adviser said based on the receipt of the petition, the enforcement team of the Agency, moved into action and sealed up the facility to carry out proper investigation so as to identify the level of the chemical contamination in all water ground in the areas, extent of the contamination and to establish the present underground water status, towards ensuring the wellness and well-being of all residents of the area.

” As a responsive and responsible Government’s Agency, we have to be proactive, since the safety and over all wellbeing of our people are paramount and must not be compromised for any reason,” Akintunde Said.
