The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), Ogun State Council, has extended her new year greetings to members and the state at large.

In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Olatunde Abiodun in Abeokuta earlier today, he said, “On behalf of the Ogun State Council of SSANIP, I warmly welcome you to the year 2025.

This new beginning offers us a fresh opportunity to reflect on our collective achievements, strengthen our bonds, and chart a purposeful course for the year ahead.”

Abiodun added that, “As we embrace the opportunities that this year holds, let me reassure you that the Ogun State Council remains fully committed to protecting and advancing the welfare of our members.

We will continue to advocate for policies and actions that prioritize the growth and sustainability of polytechnic education in Ogun State.”

He emphasized that, “One pressing issue that demands urgent attention is the funding of our state-owned polytechnics. It is no secret that the current subventions provided by the Ogun State Government are grossly inadequate to meet the needs of these institutions.

The rising costs of operations, inflationary pressures, and the necessity for modern infrastructure and technology have stretched the capacities of our polytechnics to their limits.

We, therefore, strongly call on the Ogun State Government to urgently review and increase the subventions allocated to state-owned polytechnics. Adequate funding is essential not only to ensure the smooth running of these institutions but also to uphold the quality of education they deliver.”

Comrade Abiodun advised that, “An upward review will empower our polytechnics to improve staff welfare, upgrade infrastructure, promote innovation, and support economic development. Education remains the bedrock of development, and polytechnics play a critical role in nurturing technical and vocational skills.

He also urged the government to see this as an investment in the future of Ogun State and its people.

Comrade Abiodun urged members to, “remain united and resolute in our shared mission and collective aspiration. The strength of our union lies in our collective effort, and together, we will continue to make progress.

I encourage every member to stay hopeful, proactive, and committed to our goals as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2025.

I am aware that the big question on everyone’s mind is the implementation of the 35/25% salary increment and the New Minimum Wage in our institutions.

It is in the light of this that I commend the Governing Council and Management of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences (OSPOHAS), Ilese-Ijebu for taking the lead by approving the immediate implementation of 35%/25% salary increment and the new minimum wage in the institution.

I sincerely commend the dedication of the SSANIP leadership in OSPOHAS led by Comrade Olumide Abiodun for achieving this milestone.”

He assured that, “the State Council will not rest until the New Minimum Wage is implemented across all the polytechnics in Ogun State this year.

As we move forward, let us also extend a hand of partnership to all stakeholders in our various institutions and ensure that our dialogue is constructive and demands are rooted in the pursuit of a better future for our polytechnics, staff, and students.

I am confident that 2025 will be a year of breakthroughs and achievements for our union. Let us keep hope alive, knowing that our collective actions will pave the way for the impactful changes we envision.”
