Primaries: PDP elects Alhaja Alaba Adewunmi
The Yewa South of Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday, elected Alhaja Alaba Adewumi as the flag-bearer of the party in the 2023 House of Assembly elections.
Chief Mrs Adewumi had emerged at the Primary election that took place at the Gateway Stadium, Ilaro.
The former Councilor, Ilaro Ward 2 slugged it out with three contestants of which two of them withdrawn for the third contestant; Peter Otegbeye, who scored thirteen to emerge second position at the poll.
Mr Oluwole Omotade and Mr Olatunji Adebayo, the INEC officials, who conducted the Primary election, after the Fifty-five minutes exercise, announced Hon Alhaja Alaba Adewumi as the winner having secured the highest votes of 18 delegates out of the total 31.
The delegates were drawn from the ten Wards making up Yewa South State Constituency; Ilaro I II, & III, Iwoye, Idogo, Owode I & II, and Ajilete, Oke-Odan, Ilobi-Erinja.
RazorTimes gathered that the Primary election became necessary, according to the dictate of the party constitution, when the leadership of the party was unable to persuade the contestants to a consensus candidature.
Speaking after the announcement of the election’s result, the Local Government Party Chairman, Chief Rasheed Falade stated that the election was free and fair.
“All of us can see that the election was free and fair”.
In his comment, the Zonal Chairman of the Party, Elder Sunday Olusola Soledolu, thanked all the delegates for their calmness and cooperation in making the election a free and fair exercise.
“I appreciate everyone at the stadium today for their loyalty to the party. If not for their loyalty, we might not got it right as was recorded today. Despite the delay of the INEC officials and the materials, they all waited patiently, infact, during and after the election, they comported themselves responsibly.
“Politics is like sport, if you win you rejoice, if otherwise, you thank God for everything, I implored everybody to come together to secure the Yewa South House of Assembly slot for our great Party in the 2023 general elections”.
As well, the INEC official, Mr Oluwole Omotade applauded the delegates for their maximum cooperation, adding that the whole exercise has been about transparency.
“We focused on transparency, and we achieved it”.
