Veteran News Editor Adebiyi installed as Iyalode of Ibese-Yewaland
In a grand and culturally significant event held at the Palace of the Aboro of Ibese-Yewaland, seasoned journalist and respected media professional, Mrs. Regina Aderemi Adebiyi JP, was officially installed as the Iyalode of Ibese-Yewaland by His Royal Majesty, Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero.
The installation ceremony, which took place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, brought together a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, media executives, industry leaders, and community members who came to witness and celebrate the elevation of a woman widely known for her integrity, professional excellence, and community service.
Widely respected in media circles, Regina Adebiyi is a seasoned news editor with Ogun State Television (OGTV) and the first woman from Ogun West to lead the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State chapter.
Her installation as Iyalode — a traditional chieftaincy title reserved for accomplished women of virtue, courage, and influence — signals a new era for women’s participation in cultural leadership in Yewa North Local Government Area.
In her acceptance speech, the newly installed Iyalode expressed profound gratitude: “My unreserved gratitude goes to my maker, Jehovah God, who grants me the favour, wellbeing and all that matters, to become the Iyalode of Ibese-Yewaland”, she said.
She further thanked HRM Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero, the Council of Chiefs, and all those who supported her through her life and career.
Iyalode Aderemi Adebiyi used the occasion to call on the women of Ibese-Yewaland to join hands in uplifting the community:
“We, the women and mothers of Ibese-Yewaland, must continue to work together to move our homestead to greater heights. This title is not just mine — it is for every woman who believes in progress, peace, and purposeful leadership”.
Born in the early 1960s to the Tella family of Jagun’s Compound in Ibese, Mrs. Adebiyi’s journey is deeply rooted in Yoruba culture, education, and journalism.
She attended U.A.M.C Primary School and Asakanran Grammar School in Ibese, earned her NCE in Yoruba and PES from Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, and later bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Yoruba Education from the University of Ado-Ekiti.
Her pursuit of professional excellence led her to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos, where she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism.
Since joining OGTV in 1994, she has risen through the ranks, becoming a respected News Editor and a voice for integrity in journalism.
The event was graced by royal fathers including HRM Oba (Dr) Daniel Olayinka Salako, the Aboro of Iboro-Yewaland, and HRM Oba Mukaila Salako, the Adokun of Igan-Okoto. Also in attendance were Iyalodes from across Ogun State, Baales, captains of industry, media professionals, and family members.
In her closing prayers, Iyalode Adebiyi declared: “May my time in this office bring progress, peaceful coexistence, and prosperity to Ibese-Yewaland and all her sons and daughters”.
