From Carpenter to Community Pillar: Beneficiaries Honour IBD Dende on His 53rd Birthday

As the clock approached 11:00 am on Thursday, March 3, 2022, a large crowd gathered in Ogun State to honour a man they call “Godsent” — Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, popularly known as IBD Dende. The day marked his 53rd birthday, but unlike many elaborate noble celebrations, this event was filled with genuine gratitude from those whose lives he has transformed.
From students on scholarships to traders whose businesses were saved by his generosity, the attendees were united by one thing: a desire to say “thank you” to a man who has dedicated decades to uplifting the less privileged.
A Community’s Deep Appreciation
Mrs. Janet Ewulo, one of the attendees, explained why the gathering was special:
“I am here to join men and women of God in praying for my benefactor. May God continue to protect him for us.”
For 76-year-old Mrs. Abimbola Abiodun, the day was personal. She described IBD Dende as the most reasonable and selfless man she has ever met:
“If Dende is truly a human being like me, then his parents’ nutfah is of a different kind. He always puts the needs of others before his own.”
Stories of Lives Changed
Electrical engineer and entrepreneur Mr. Jimoh Ogunkanmi recalled how IBD helped a friend in need:
“I am not one of his direct beneficiaries, but I can name four people whose lives he has transformed through financial support. That man is truly a blessing to our community.”
A popular broadcaster also noted that many of his colleagues had benefitted from IBD’s generosity, describing him as a man destined to overcome challenges and uplift more underprivileged people.
One neighbour testified to IBD’s commitment to his workers:
“This is a man who ensures that those working with him have houses of their own and live a good life. He was sent by God to free us from poverty.”
The Philanthropist’s Philosophy
Beyond birthday celebrations, IBD Dende’s humanitarian efforts are well-documented. He has funded countless scholarships, provided financial aid to struggling families, and distributed relief materials to those in crisis.
In his own words:
“For the past five years, I have been using the money meant for repainting my house to empower the needy. What’s the point of a freshly painted home when someone nearby can’t eat, pay school fees, or afford hospital bills?”
Despite his success, IBD remains humble:
“People think I am rich, but there are many in Yewaland who are wealthier. I just can’t close my eyes to someone in desperate need of life-changing help.”
From Carpenter to Community Pillar
Born in 1969 in Ebute-Igbooro, Yewa North LGA, Ogun State, IBD began his career as a carpenter after secondary school. He trained apprentices and eventually transitioned into freight forwarding in the early 1990s, learning from one of the most respected professionals in the trade.
Today, he is not only a successful businessman but also one of Ogun State’s most celebrated philanthropists. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of hope reflects his resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to humanity.
A Birthday of Gratitude, Not Glamour
While many high-profile birthdays are marked by opulence, IBD Dende’s annual celebration has become a tradition of thanksgiving. Beneficiaries, relatives, friends, and community leaders gather not to merely party, but to pray for his long life and continued service to humanity.
For those present on March 3, 2022, the message was clear: true wealth is measured not by possessions, but by the lives you touch.
