Veteran Human Rights Defender marks 96th Birthday with Historic Legacy Project
Veteran human rights defender and philanthropist, Otunba Ephraim Lana Akintan, on Monday, August 18, 2025, commissioned the permanent office of the Otunba Lana Akintan Human Rights Foundation (OLAKHUF) in Oja-Odan, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The event, which doubled as the highlight of his 96th birthday celebration, was described as a landmark initiative dedicated to protecting the rights of the oppressed, promoting justice, and safeguarding human dignity.
Foundation Strengthened with Permanent Structure

The Human Rights Foundation was first inaugurated in 2024 during his 95th birthday celebration. Now, with a permanent office, the Foundation is set to expand its reach in championing the rights of the downtrodden and amplifying the voices of the voiceless.
Otunba Akintan’s Remark: “A Legacy That Will Outlive Me”

Speaking at the commissioning, Otunba Akintan reaffirmed his lifelong dedication to human rights:
“I have spent my life defending human rights, and at 96, my desire is to see this work live on through the Foundation. I implore the Board of Trustees led by Mr. Abiodun Ogundipe to use every resource at their disposal to defend the oppressed and give voice to the voiceless. Our people can rest assured that this Foundation will stand as their defender.”

Family members, friends, and well-wishers at the commissioning described the occasion as a historic milestone that will serve as a beacon of hope for generations to come.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Abiodun Ogundipe, assured the Founder of their readiness to deliver on the Foundation’s mandate.
“The people of Yewa North and environs will certainly begin to feel the impact of OLAKHUF in no time,” he said.

The Foundation’s mission is to stand as a defender for those who face abuse, neglect, and injustice, ensuring that Otunba Akintan’s legacy of justice and equity continues for generations.
